Suddenly Tomorrow!

Despite months of planning, it always is a surprise when the clothes actually go in the suitcase! The flight to Xi'an is a total of 28 hours of travel - 13 of which are a layover in Beijing, Terminal 1. (The fancy new one is Terminal 3!) Luckily they have a KFC (I may hold off on the Tree Fungus salad...).

"KFC is the largest restaurant chain in China, with 5,003 outlets as of 2015. They are operated by the Yum! China division. KFC became the first Western fast food company in China after its first outlet opened in QianmenBeijing, in November 1987. The Zinger burger is the highest selling menu item.[24] KFC has adapted its menu to suit local tastes, with items such as rice congee, egg custard tarts and tree fungus salad, with an average of 50 different menu items per store. Another item is the Dragon Twister, a wrap that includes fried chicken, cucumbers, scallions, and duck sauce, similar in preparation to Peking duck.
Chinese outlets are typically two to three times larger than American and European outlets; many are open 24 hours a day and provide home delivery; and two new menu items are released each month."

Visa in hand!

Never really plan to go to China until you have the hard-to-get Visa in hand. But a trip to the city did it! I am now officially welcomed for 10 years!

Xi'an is south and west of Beijing and it is the home of the Terra Cotta warriors. Should be lots of tourists.

We will be teaching at the universities and Teachers' Schools in the city doing a variety of activities designed to give students who will teach English the chance to hear a native speaker.

Teaching 2019

China is a big place.

To have "been to China" as I did in 2008 was to see Shanghai and Jingdezhen, a rather remote town of 2M in Jiangzi province. Most of the people who lived there had never been to Beijing.

So I am going back - this time to a far larger and more northern place: Xi'an. Here 4 of us will teach a variety of ages from junior high to college students.

And I plan to see the Terra Cotta warriors.

Trip planned for October 10-26, 2019.
